Score reporting and
posting on the web – Bob VanHoomissen (425.891.6591 & bobvh@alumni.nd.edu)
and/or Brian Berry requires prompt reporting to post scores & calculate
standings. It’s the
responsibility of the home field system to turn in the results by Sat. night.
You can call in the information, but he prefers an e-mail.
Be sure to verify the posting and contact Bob or Brian for any
corrections. Note that the standing
for Varsity level is calculated with conference games ONLY.
Web site review – We
have seen vast improvement on system web sites.
Please post your contact names (both system & coaching staff) along
with phone numbers (and e-mail addresses) and keep them updated.
This enables easy contact for those who need to talk with your system.
Woodinville still need to identify their teams by color. Five Stars,
Bellevue Bears, Newport,Issaquah, Redmond, Skyline, Sno. Valley, Univac…, meet
the League’s standards in web site design.
Schedule review, playoff
and shoot out if required – There are quite a few teams at various levels that
are vying for playoff standings. Each
system should check your teams’ standing and consider whether you want to
participate in shoot out. Let Shawn
know about your decision by 10/29 evening.
Shoot out will be held on Monday, 10/30, 6:00pm @ Interlake High School.
We will begin with the lowest level and progress up.
We want to send younger players home early.
Remember, first & second place teams get home field advantage at the
playoff.
Huskies date:
11/4 – Kirkland Varsity vs. Bellevue Bears Varsity – Paperwork needs
to be completed by each team. Shawn
will arrange for two officials. Have
fun!
Referee – Another
system of the same league wrote requesting to join us. Shawn will call a committee review the situation.
However, we won’t be able to grow without getting more adult referees
joining the program. Every system will be required to recruit.
Furthermore, half of our referees are teenagers.
Don’t expect them to make all calls correctly.
Be tolerant! We will be
short on referees this week. There
may only be two or even one referee at each field.
With or without referees, the show must go on!
Please be prepared to stand in.
Code of Conduct, Split
team review, Coach selection – We finally received code of conduct forms from
everyone. Please remind your
coaches that we have ZERO TOLERANCE on unsportsman-like behaviors, e.g., yelling
at the referees. While we currently
conduct evaluations on referees, we should consider evaluating our coaches.
System Directors should observe your coaches’ attitude and behavior.
Any misconduct is not conducive to player performance. Coaches should set a good example for their players.
The new GEJFA System Game Report was made available.
Report should be faxed or e-mailed to Tom Thomason (425.788.2366 & justlinmedical@yahoo.com)
no later than following Tuesday.
Five Star @ Newport games
(Varsity & Semi Pro) on 10/14 – A copy of an article titled “<Violence
gives kids’ sports black eye” published on the Sunday, October 8, 2000,
Seattle Times was included in the handout.
Saturday Kids from the same school (McKnight) were causing problems at
these games. A fight actually broke
out in the stands at the Semi Pro game. Five
Star parents stepped in to stop the fight.
One parent sought help at the Concession stand later.
However, the incident was over by that time.
Apparently, kids and parents not belonging to either system were in
attendance. These kids have built
up a rivalry throughout the prior week at school.
Other Business – The
Redmond Varsity team has reduced to a 12-player team. This Saturday’s game will be its last. The team’s quarterback suffered serious injuries at last
week’s game.
Schedule revisions –
Games will start an hour early on 10/21 and half an hour later on 10/28 at
Bellevue High. Mercer Island Cubs
will play at Redmond High at 3pm and Sophomores at Woodinville High at 5pm on
10/28. Woodinville Blue JV will not
have an exchange game on 10/28. See
revised posting on the web.
