Shawn O'Brien Post Meeting Notes:

Redmond has found two more Varsity level players and they need help. I have instructed them to add then to their roster.

There is a rumor that some Systems are allowing players who miss weight to go ahead and play in the games. This is not an acceptable practice. Players shall weigh in once and any player that exceeds the maximum point allowance by more than (nine tenths) 9/10 of a pound will not be allowed to play. The Coach of the team being weighed is responsible for any and all players that do not make weight....Thanks for your help in conforming to the rules... Shawn

GEJFA MEETING MINUTES-September 26, 2000

Attending: Ed Rafferty, Garth Lindelef, Greg Pardee, Bill Kusulos, Jeff Kanyer, Scott Shelton, Dennis Nixdorf, Trueblood (Issaquah), Sue Ashenbrenner, Roger Moore, Erik Noet (Mercer Island), Matt Campbell, Chuck Nichols, Rick Wells, Dave Schroeter, Craig Lechner, Bob Peterson, Brian Prouty, Brian Berry, Mike Pattison, John Veentjer, Bob VanHoomissen, Shawn O'Brien

Absent: Tom Thomason, Paul Manjarrez, Robb Clarke, Lloyd Woodall (all excused), Mercer Island A.D.

Note: Minutes are provided in the order of the agenda, although the order was not followed strictly due to absence of certain individuals.

Call to order at 8:00 pm.

1. Minutes -- they're on the web; assumed they have been read; no comments received from the system reps present.
2. Score reporting -- deferred to later in meeting due to Bob VanHoomissen's absence; addressed when Bob arrived; some problem getting scores; Bob has changed e-mail address to bobvh@alumni.edu; sought to get missing scores at meeting; emphasized importance of getting scores to Bob Saturday night.
3. Master roster review, weigh-in rosters, video passes:

a. two systems have master rosters by points vs alpha; if you need to ask or otherwise don't know, then you are probably one of those systems; get the master rosters fixed. Shawn also discussed what the master roster is supposed to show. Responded to question regarding school -- show school attending, home school if appropriate.

b. at least one game was without a weigh-in roster this past weekend.  Need weigh-in rosters at field vs master roster to facilitate a quick weigh-in.

c. discussion regarding video pass policy. Iglemoor offered their video pass as a model, made copies and distributed. Shawn reminded system reps that when you have something that works well, bring it in and share with other systems.

4. Website review -- Kirkland and Mercer Island need to update their sites.
5. Schedule review, match up for JV on bye -- no teams outside GEJFA to play. Experiences to with other systems at this level has not been good.
6. Huskies dates -- quick review of assignments. Redmond & Canyon Park indicated that they are ready to go for October 7. Looking for match for Kirkland Varsity for November 4; will pick a team not likely to be in the playoffs; this will be their game for that weekend.
7. Referees

a. Need more adult refs. We have 11 PNFOA refs, but several have yet to work a GEJFA game because there are more HS (Varsity and JV) games on Saturday. 50% of our refs are teenagers and many of them are on HS teams, sometimes playing games on Saturday. Don't stop recruiting refs; we need to grow our senior refs from within.
b. QB needs to tell refs when going to take a knee; GEJFA policy is that there will be no rush.
c. Don't use tape on jerseys; fingers can get caught and broken.  Not allowed.
d. During warm-ups at the end of the field no which a game is in progress, don't use whistles. Otherwise, don't interfere with the game in progress.

8. Grievance Committee report -- strict enforcement, warn coaches that they don't want to come before the Grievance Committee, but if they do, come with hat in hand. Grievance Committee is to meet after Council meeting regarding one coach.
9. Other business --

a. Shawn related case of great sportsmanship; passed good word to system rep. Need way to recognize this behavior; this is what we are trying to build.
b. Discussed RDYAA's interest in joining GEJFA. Suggested that we give them guide to building a good system/league, however, we are busting at the seams with over 101 teams this year; really can't take on any more. Maybe some day they can play interleague with us.
c. SnoValley want to add new person to area to one of their teams; no objections. UNIVAC also had case of 2 persons they wanted to add; no objections. Skyline has a new person at semi-pro level, but no room on their team; available to go to team in need of additional players.
d. Reviewed points per game by level.
e. Be flexible. Some game times needed to be changed this past  Saturday; could happen again. HS games and referee availability are common reasons to alter game schedule.
f. Discussed 32 point rule. Was suggested by at least one system that we still need to work on this policy. Discussed ways in which to keep score within 32 points. However, if someone has a better idea regarding policy, draft it up and present it during the off season meetings to be considered.
g. Missing some Codes of Conduct -- get them in by next meeting or else.

Meeting adjourned at 9:00 pm.

Grievance Committee met following the Council meeting.

Separate meeting of the Semi-pro coaches. NOTE: Added player to Knight's roster-approved by Semi-Pro coaches in attendance.
