Followed the agenda.

Minutes of the last meeting (August 12, 2002) were distributed by email for comment.  Lacking comments, these minutes will be posted to the web site as they are.

Apologized if we had not yet got all the email addresses corrected on the web site.  Seems we misplaced the sign-in sheet from previous meeting.  So, please check tonight’s sign-in sheet for accuracy and we will get the web site corrected.  Also need to check individual system web sites and ensure they are up to date.  Matt can help, but he won’t maintain system web sites.

Still missing some WSP forms; please get those turned in ASAP.  Admin fees are due at this meeting.  Also due tonight are Master Rosters with birth certificates (also transfer and waiver forms), Coaches Code of Conduct forms, Boys and Girls Club fees.

Master rosters must be turned in by Monday, August 26, to ensure they are available for review on Thursday, August 29.  A committee of the following individuals (Mike Pattison, Chuck Nichols, Scott Sheldon, Rick Wells, Bob Woods, Roger Moore, Paul Manjarrez, and John Veentjer) will conduct the review and provide feedback via the system reps at the September 3 Council meeting.

We are under the umbrella of the Boys and Girls Club and all players must be members of a Boys and Girls Club.  In general, players in Kirkland system who are not already members would join the Kirkland Club and players in the Mercer Island system would join the Mercer Island Club.  Others would most likely join the Bellevue Club for the quarter membership fee of $13.  However, membership in other Clubs such as the Redmond Club also work.  If a player already has an active membership (covering the football season), maybe because they played Club basketball, then no additional fee is necessary.

Referee fees are due at the September 3 Council Meeting.

Brief review of Coaches’ meeting.  Received only positive comments about the format (guest speakers) and the better attendance.  Provided each system rep with a copy of the coaches’ test annotated with answers and explanations.  Held brief discussion.  Also provided each system with copies of the Sportingkid magazine, 2 copies per team.  Mentioned the NYSCA clinics and fact that the local chapters for conducting clinics are not providing clinics outside their own programs and aren’t covering football anyway.   I continue to look for ways to improve training available to the coaches of GEJFA.

Jamborees

August 24 – Woodinville, SnoValley, and Newport

August 31 – Eastlake, Bothell (Pop Keeney), and Inglemoor

Remember, officials are there for their own training.  We will try to have officials at all jamborees for their duration, but may not be able to cover all times.

Game schedule – schedules are near complete, but we have another change in team count sending the schedules back to the drawing board for modification.  Look for the schedule on the web site some time next week; otherwise they will be available at the September 3rd Council meeting.  Remember to assign someone in your system (otherwise, have a plan) to report game scores to Matt Campbell Sat night/Sun morning.

Game Reports – game report forms can be download from web site.  Mike Pattison and Paul Manjarrez will split up the game reports to spread out the workload.  We’ll let you know at next meeting to whom each system needs to send their reports.  Again, assign someone to coordinate this to ensure it gets done by Monday.  If a coach is going to give low scores to the officials, then the low scores need explanation.  Low score without explanation is useless.

Officials – we have some new officials, but not the 30 we should have if each system were to provide two new officials.  However, the officials have been doing some recruiting of their own and our numbers are up.  Need some more adults – high schoolers are okay if they are mature enough to perform the job and are reliable; keep in mind those you recruit could be working your games.

Review

Shawn brought up schedule for Seniors and held a brief separate meeting to discuss opportunities and format.
