innings of the Mariners game.
Introductions:
None
Minutes from last meeting: Minutes of the August 19, 2003 meeting distributed by email and will be posted to website this week (actually done on 9-2-03).
Review
WSP forms and Code of
Conduct forms should all be submitted by now. Several Systems were contacted
directly regarding a few missing Code of Conduct forms.
Boys and Girls Club fees
are overdue. Two Systems are late at this time: one who delivered check to the
Club @ front desk, but check may be missing; and one for which the check is in
the mail.
Referee/field use fees
(due tonight): A few are late; need to make arrangements to get these fees to
John this week. Will not let Systems continue to participate for long with these
fees still outstanding. Reportedly, those missing will be mailed to John this
week.
First Aid – all reminded
that one First Aid certified person needs to be on the field with each team.
Systems to ensure this is in place.
Jamborees:
Seems to be too many
jamborees compared to years past. Held three jamborees on August 23 and four on
August 30.
Some coaches indicated
that a jamboree after two weeks of practice is too early.
Officials work jamborees
for free and for the purpose of training new officials or to be trained; they
tend to do one weekend or the other. If all jamborees were one weekend, would
more likely be better covered by officials.
Question of overweight
players came up at one jamboree. GEJFA used to have a rule that no player
weighting five or more pounds over the maximum of the level to which assigned
shall have physical contact with any player at that level. We need to make sure
this gets written back into the rules. Would seem that most any player who is
more than two pounds overweight one week before the first game is probably not
going to make weight and should move up. No answer at tonight’s meeting;
something to think about and be prepared to address in the off-season.
There are no scores to be maintained and reported for jamborees; these are practices.
Roster Review: Roster review went well. We had about a dozen people – obviously not all 16 Systems were represented as requested.
There were a few boundary
issues to be addressed.
Bunches of missing birth
certificates, some bad birth dates in transfer from certificates to rosters
resulting in wrong age points; need to be addressed, however, don’t think any
players will need to be moved up a level due to these errors.
After reviewing and
addressing the notes on the preliminary roster, return a reprinted Master Roster
with correction to Bob Peterson at the Club to get the GEJFA stamp. Best to call
ahead and bring the rosters to Bob rather than the young ladies at the front
desk.
Missing a couple of split
policies. John will communicate directly with the Systems who still need to
provide a split policy.
Final Master Roster is
due on or before September 12th. This is the last day to add players to your
rosters; however, we have allowed additions on a case-by-case basis beyond this
date in the past. Game rosters are required at Game #1, however, the Master
Roster (with stamp) need not be produced (on request) until Game #2.
There will be a Council meeting at
BCC at 6PM on August 11- room TBD followed by a coaches meeting at 7:00PM. Room
fees have tripled so Sophomore/JV will be in the Theater, Seniors in the Theater
lobby and Varsity, Cubs and Rookies will have their own rooms. The men in charge
of the various groups are Seniors- Ed Rafferty, Varsity- Greg Pardee, JV and
Sophomores Chuck Nichols and Bill Kusulos, Cubs- Scott
Shelton, and Rookies- Rick Wells.
Coaches’ exam- sample included in the packet. Discussion revolved around
emphasizing the 12 points in the questions. General consensus was it was
successful last year and it would be repeated this year at the clinic. Call John
if you have any suggestions for other questions.
Website Updates: Each System should visit their web site and ensure it is up-to-date and complete. These sites really should be kept current from the beginning of the calendar year so that inquiries can be referenced to the appropriate System site. Univac, Knights and Eastlake, in particular, need to check their sites.
Field locations should
all be on the Web Site, including Centennial Park. Scott said he would check out
the master map and see if it can be up-dated.
The schedule is now posted on the website. Expect changes and check regularly.
Game Schedule:
As already mentioned, game
schedule is posted on the web site; expect a few changes; check regularly.
Seniors: Exchange games
have been arranged for the Seniors so that they now have a full schedule and
don’t play anyone twice. Senior championship game will be on the same day as the
other GEJFA championship games.
Jersey colors: Please
check the GEJFA rules regarding jersey color. Remember the home team is to wear
its primary colors as listed in the rules; the visit team is to wear a color
that contrasts with the home teams primary color. As a System check the rules
and make phone calls if it is possible that jersey issues may arise; confirm
colors before game day.
Game scores to Sham Austin
on Saturday night/Sunday morning. Handed out a score reporting sheet with
instructions and fill in the blanks. This form can also be downloaded from the
web site (under Game Reporting). Strongly encourage each system to find a parent
to be responsible for reporting all the Systems scores on Saturday night;
collect scores, complete forms, email or fax form per instructions (call and
leave message is another option).
Game Reports: Handed out revised instructions for completing game reports. Each team is to prepare a report and submit to their System. Systems transfer information to the System Game Report and sends to Scott Shelton by Monday evening. Prefer the System Report be emailed, however, fax is also available. Both these forms can be found on the web site.
Officials: Should have sufficient number of officials. A fair number of new officials. Turnout at jamborees was not a good as desired, but then there were probably too many jamborees to be covered. Otherwise nothing significant to report at this time regarding the officials.
Sportsmanship:
Just a reminder that Head Coach is responsible for his assistant coaches, his
players and his parents; their poor behavior can get the Head Coach penalized
and ultimately ejected. ZERO TOLERANCE !!!
Field Manager: A description of the
Field Manager’s duties is available on the web site. All field manager’s should
have a copy. Not all parts are applicable at every field. This is a guideline.
Other Business: Quick review of
Huskies and Seahawks games pregame participation. Kirkland and SnoValley
Redwolves are participating in the Husky pregame. Bellevue Wolverines and
Eastlake are participating in the 9/21 Seahawks game. Five Star is participating
in the 11/2 Seahawk game with a System yet to be determined. Several Systems
have declined and currently the offer is to SnoValley Redwolves (then to
Skyline).
Adjourn at about 8:30pm.
Adjourned at about 9:00pm. Next meeting: September 23th,
8:00 pm @ Bellevue Boys and Girls Club
