GEJFA Council Meeting

November 13, 2007

 

Call to order - 8:00 p.m.

 

Members in attendance:  John Veentjer (President), Joe Morgan (Vice President & Woodinville), Tami Steckler (Secretary &Redmond), Billie Hartline (Scheduler, Webmaster & Inglemoor), Shawn O'Brien (Scheduler & Senior Coordinator), Rick Schoeder (Bears); Jim Brenden (Knights), Greg Pardee (Wolverines), Greg Brink (Bainbridge), Ron Walker (Bothell), JBR (Cedarcrest), Larry Feero (Eastlake), Robert Reeves (Five Star), Tom Olson (Kirkland B&G Club), Marlow Green (Issaquah), Craig Peterson (Lake Washington), Tom Michajla (Juanita), Sean Marshall (Mercer Island), Bob Van Liew (Mt Si), Jim Sypher (Skyline).

Minutes of the October 30 meeting were e-mailed.  No comments were received, thus they are approved.

 

Schedule review-

 

Championships at Bellevue High. 

·         Trophies - A single trophy is provide for the winning team, the trophies are ordered and will be delivered this week.

·         Home team identification – Per longstanding policy, the hosting systems teams are the "home" team.  In those games in which there is no hosting system team, a coin flip was conducted at this Council meeting.  There was a need to do coin flip for Varsity and Seniors and the results are as follows:

¨      Varsity - Skyline won the toss - home team

¨      Seniors - Newstar won the toss - home team

·         Next meeting vote for elected officials - Nominations are open until the December 4th meeting

Social event following the next Council meeting - everyone is encouraged to attend

 

Game reports - 

·         Games that were not posted on the scoreboard for last week were games that neither System submitted a game report.  Billie will make one more attempt to collect the scores.

 

Winter meeting agenda - any additions to the list:

·         Consider moving season forward one week (maybe two?)

·         System representation at Council meetings

·         Revise the Field Managers guideline

·         Revisit the Age Weight Chart 

¨        revisit age point limits at levels above rookies

¨        address the "X" player maximum weight concern

¨        Seniors - all 8th graders to Seniors? maybe no 9th grade level

·         Revisit game schedule format proposal to have an A and B league

·         Review substitution rule

¨        proposal to allow teams with more than 22 players to run some players both ways

·         Consider size of teams concerns

¨        26 players on each anticipated team before closing registration or creating wait lists

·         Review score management rules

·         Address loss of players from roster

¨        e.g., require written notice (e-mail) each time a player is lost from a roster, e.g., quit, moved up, let go for cause

·         Address discipline of players issue

¨        e.g., require an e-mail report before the game, copy of the e-mail to be attached to the roster; no advance report, no discipline.

·         Create a Code for use of the Press boxes and PA Systems

·         Consider holding Grievance Committee meetings every Tuesday by routine and bringing in behavior issues other than ejections.

·         Need a diffferent, better and easier enforced system for background checks.

·         Coach training

¨        Mandatory???

¨        Format: Classroom, On-line, alternatives, e.g., Glazier and Coaching School.

·         Officials

¨        Recruit officials during the off season, expect one new official from each System, two from the larger Systems

¨        Target recruiting on college age and older

¨        Officials training (consider an extra 2$ for attending training, have primary dates and makeup dates)

¨        Pay increase for WOA Officials???  Research financial impact: will it draw in more WOA Officials???

 

Officials

·         Need more officials - Adults in particular

·         Preseason clinics

 

Calendar - A copy of next years proposed Calendar was distributed - attached.

 

Nominations for 2008 Officers

·         President - Billie Hartline nominated John Veentjer for President

·         Shawn O'Brien nominated Billie Hartline for Vice President

·         Tami Steckler was nominated for Secretary

·         Nominations remain open until the December 4th meeting

 

Other business-

Shawn O'Brien and John Veentjer suggested a couple of books for coaches to read:

·         Season of Life by Jeffrey Marks

·         Lifes Lessons Learned from Little League
